How to start drifting with your RC car
RC drifting has taken off in recent months. But not every RC car is drift compatible. Here you will learn about a few steps you should follow in order to make your remote control car a drifters dream.
But, before we get into how you can do this, let’s address one very important question you may have right now: can an RC car drift? The answer is yes! Well, if it couldn’t, we wouldn’t really be here talking about it now, would we? Even though stock RC cars can start drifting right out of the box, there are a few modifications which you can make to the setup and chassis which will improve upon the speed and angle on the drifts.
The first thing you have to do is buy an RC car of course. Once you have the car, you need to break the traction caused by the power to weight ratio of the car. You will need drift tires if you want to go sideways easily. But, that’s not the only way. If you cannot find any drift tires, just use some insulation tape. Wrap it in the same direction that the wheel will turn though. A good idea would be to put it on the ground and then run your car over it. Taped tires work great when you are on a surface which has hardly any traction. But they aren’t going to last too long.
Next, you need to make your RC car more predictable. This means applying all the standard racing settings to the shocks, wheel angles, and height. One thing you can’t ignore though, is the rear differential. It’s also called a spool differential. It means both wheels will turn together. This will allow you to break traction whenever you want. It will make it easier to control drifts too.
